Dauphine Arms

Dauphine Coat of Arms T-Shirt -The Dauphiné was an autonomous region from 1040 - 1349 before joining France. After the French revolution it was divided into three departments, the modern-day Isère, Drôme and Hautes-Alpes. The 1968 Winter Olympics were held in Grenoble, the capital. The coat of arms features several traditional French fleurs de lis, as well as two dolphins. The area is not coastal, so you may wonder why the dolphins are used. In the 12th century, the local ruler Count Guigues IV of Albon was nicknamed le Dauphin (French for dolphin) and his coat of arms featured a dolphin. You'll feel terribly continental in this French coat of arms t-shirt.
