The Spartakiad was a sort of Soviet Olympics, named for Spartacus, and meant to symbolize Proletarian internationalism. The fist games were held in 1928 and they ran internationally until the Soviets joined the Olympic games in 1952. After that they continued as various smaller competitions and displays. In addition to the traditional sports like track, gymnastics, skating, and shooting the Spartakiads also included various motorcycle races and gliding competitions. These striking red zephyr gliders are proud to compete for the motherland. You'll love this retro aviation t-shirt.
