Canarina abyssinica, the Ethiopian bellflower, is celebrated here on a stamp from Tuvalu, an island in the South Pacific. It's a lovely flower, to be sure, but not native to that part of the world. The name canarina refers to the Canary Islands, which are also not in that part of the world. Nanumaga (sometimes called Nanumanga) is a small island that is part of Tuvalu. In 1986, divers found a coral cave more than 40 meters below the water that showed signs of prehistoric fire making. You'll love this beautiful flower t-shirt!
