In this early airmail stamp, a small prop plane flies over Oslo's Akershus Fortress. Akershus was started in the 1290s to defend Oslo, and has survived all sieges. It surrendered without combat to Nazi Germany in 1940 when the Norwegian government evacuated the capital. After World War II, eight Norwegian traitors, including Vidkun Quisling, were executed there. Through its history it has been used as a prison and a burial place for Norwegian royalty. Greetings from Atlantic City! Did you know that all the names in the American version of the board game Monopoly are street names from Atlantic City? This charming bit of nostalgia features scenes from Atlantic City's past, including Lucy the Elephant, a 6-story novelty building in nearby Margate, New Jersey.

Hopefully in reality the planes fly a little higher! The San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge opened six months after the Golden Gate Bridge. This charming bit of Americana nostalgia shows a scene from the early days of Luna Park on Coney Island, New York. In the years since it opened in 1903, nearly 100 other Luna Parks have opened around the world and can be found on every continent except Antarctica. The Coney Island Luna Park offered elephant rides, as well more conventional early rollercoasters. A pair of fires in the early 1940s closed the park, but it can live on as part of your wardrobe.

This kitschy Americana t-shirt features a postcard trumpeting the front view of The World's Only Corn Palace! How exciting! The Corn Palace was built in 1892 in Mitchell, South Dakota. The exterior of the arena is decorated with murals made entirely from corn and is redesigned every year.

Greetings from Detroit, Michigan! Hometown of my favorite band, The White Stripes! I've been trying to identify some of the landmarks featured on this postcard, but so far I haven't had any luck. Any Detroit natives want to help me out? In addition to The White Stripes, Detroit gave birth to Motown Records so it's clearly a city of musical geniuses. 

Easter Island, called Isla de Pascua in Spanish, and Rapa Nui in the native Polynesian language, is home to nearly a thousand of these imposing megaliths called Moai. The tallest is almost 33 feet high! The carvings represented ancestors, and were important lineage status symbols. This specific maoi is located on a hillside in Rano Raraku and most likely has a torso that is buried underground.

This incredibly cool looking jet is a de Havilland Venom  FB 4, a  single-seat fighter-bomber with ejector seats. How awesome is that? 250 were built, mainly for the RAF, who I guess used them for sightseeing trips around the world. What better way to see the Maoi of Easter Island than from cockpit of your own private fighter jet? You'll love this retro jet t-shirt.  

Mexico - 1960. This is one of Mexico City's most beloved monuments. The stamp was issued to celebrate 150 years of independence.

The HP 42 by British manufacturer Handley Page was a biplane airliner, capable of carrying up to 24 passengers. Four were built, but none survive today. They were all named, which means this is either Hannibal, Horsa, Hanno, or Hadrian. They were based in Cairo which would explain this stunning view of the Giza pyramids. Greetings from Key West! Informally known as The Conch Republic, Key West is the southernmost of the Florida Keys, only 90 miles from Cuba.

The Mil Mi-4 is a Soviet transport helicopter, introduced in response to the US use of Chickasaw helicopters in Korea. It was used extensively in Asia, India, Cuba and some African countries. It was last in use in Albania, but has been retired since 2005. This example of the breed is hovering over the Kremlin in Moscow. You'll love this retro helicopter t-shirt.
