The cheetah is the fastest land animal on Earth, capable of speeds up to 75 mph for distances of 1,600 feet. In ancient Egypt, cheetahs were often kept as pets by royalty. They were tamed and trained for hunting, a tradition that carried on through the 20th century in India. In the 1930s Ethiopian emperor Haile Selessie was often photographed with a leashed cheetah. It's probably a good thing that Rastafarians didn't adopt that affectation! Look fierce in your cheetah t-shirt.
