These shirts will tell everyone you care about the world.
Founded in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day was at first only celebrated in the United States, but beginning in 1990 it went international and is now celebrated in 175 countries around the world.
Why did Senator Nelson choose April 22? His original envisioning was an "environmental teach-in" (this was 1970, remember) and he wanted to maximize the number of college students that could participate. The date fell nicely between spring break and final exams, didn't conflict with any religious holidays, and was late enough in spring to hope for decent weather. The one thing he overlooked is that it's also Vladimir Lenin's birthday, a fact which drew the FBI's attention that first year.
